SARS n-CoV 2 / CoVID 2019
Due to the current worldwide outbreak of the SARS n-CoV 2 virus and the raising cases of CoVID 2019 illnisses around the globe, I have amended my precautionary measures accordingly.
As far as practicable I maintain social distancing to persons not being part of my own household. If distance can not be maintained and in the public I am wearing face masks covering mouth and nose. I maintain regular handwashing and disinfecting.
For my private life I have put my family under home quarantine with restricted social contacts others than us. Provisions are received only in long term intervalls, like every two weeks and never within five days prior to any vessel attendance.
Once the order to visit a vessel is given, I request the vessels master to issue a health declaration, giving some vital information on ports visited and visitors having been on board. Based on this information I make a risk assessment if attendance is deemed safe.
The managers are asked to issue a job confirmation, allowing me to present some documentation if my movement is questioned.
Finally I keep daily track of my activities and twice daily my body temperature. The log is permanently with me and can be shown any time.
For the on board visits I am fitted with face masks and I am doing regular more frequent hand washing.
I am performing also remote audits for the flag state Liberia.

I am also performing remote Audits with documents review and a short remote Session, so there is no physical Contact between Auditor and Auditee.

Until today [02-MAR-2021] I have completed 293 Audits {ISM/ISPS/MLC}, 160 RightShip Inspections, 51 Container Ship Inspections and 85 Condition / Pre-Purchase Surveys.

Today [02-MAR-2021] I am preparing for a pre-purchase inspection of a geared handysize bulk carrier. 

Additionally to the latest task there are still some further jobs in the pipeline:
  • One(1) additional ISM Audit & Special Safety Inspection on scene.
  • One(1) RightShip Inspection on scene.
  • One (1) Condition Inspection of a gearless Panmax Container Ship on scene.
  • Four(4) combined internal ISM/ISPS Audits & MLC Inspections with condition inspection on scene.
  • One (1) Condition Inspection of a gearless handysize Container Ship on scene.

Along the german coast and temporary also to Danmark I am available as accredited nautical inspector and auditor for flag state Liberia to perform external ISM & ISPS Audits, Safety or MLC Inspections and Incident Investigations. An external Audit lasts 8 to 14 hours depending on the scope, a Safety Inspection normally lasts 8 hours, while Incident Investigations may last much longer, depending on their complexity. This will ensure that the root cause analysis is performed thoroughly and exhaustively.

As reaction to travel restrictions caused by CoVID 19 I have started performing remote ISM / ISPS Audits and remote MLC Inspections, both internal as well as external. In advance I am requesting documentation which is reviewed to evaluate if the system is duly implemented and followed.  A "life session" using App und mobile phone will follow. You are welcome to request further information.
More and more flag states are accepting such remote audits to comply with the requirements ISM 12.1 and ISPS 9.4.8.
With my vast knowledge of the content of the ISPS Code I do also provide consultancy services both for shipping companies and port facilities to properly implement and comply with the requirements from the ISPS Code.
Plan Approvals (BWMP, SOPEP, SSP, STS, VOC) round up my tasks.

I do perform Condition Surveys along with a detailed pictured report as per your requirements. My long term experience will be incorporated and not only the physical condition on deck, in the engine and accommodation will be evaluated but also the performance during third party inspections like Port State Controls or Vettings.
Currently I am accredited as RightShip / PacMarine (Bulk Vetting) inspector, ONE (Ocean Network Express) (Container Ship Vetting) inspector and by IDWAL Marine.
After the inspection is completed I may also present the vessel to responsible persons (investors, superintendents, DPA,...) .

I am available to assist in establishing, introducing and verifying your (integrated) Management Systems with my long term experience as HSSEQ Manager. The curret standards like DIN ISO 9001/ISM, DIN ISO 14001, ISPS, OHSAS 18001/MLC are well familiar to me. I perform internal audits of your system against any of these codes and standards anytime. Hereby you have the possibility to have the extend and effectiveness confirmed, but also potentials for improvement can be identified to make your system stronger. However you may also find it usefull to get some assistance on board the vessel if any third party inspection does not seem to bring the result as expected.

The combination of an internal audit with a condition survey performed by an external professional allows to present reports not only of the range of implementation of your management system but also of the physical condition of your asset.

   (1) Did you comply with the obligatory documentation requirement to the full extend?  
   (2) Do you have a properly documented risk assessment, which is correct and up to date?
   (3) Are your employees sufficently instructed and is it documented?

An additional possibility to evaluate if you have need for action in your Occupational Health & Safety is the free of charge online ORGAcheck of the "Joint German Occupational Safety and Health Strategy" (GDA). It is available either as Basisversion or as Vollversion with quite extensive questionnaire.
Do you want to use the full potential of your employess? As Occupational Health & Safety Expert I do offer the full range of preventive Occupational Health and Safety. By properly performing it, we are able to optimize the daily performance curve of your people. It would be a pleasure to support you in establishing, introducing and finally verifying an "Occupational Health & Safety" Management System such as BS OHSAS 18001. Regular Ausits ensure that the Management System constantly complies with the latest legal requirements. For the maritime sector I may do the same in compliance with the Maritime Labor Convention (MLC). During site inspections we will identify potentials for improvement and will implement usefull preventive actions in the system. Based on the Risk Assessment the required work procedures will be established.
I will be pleased to assist in identifying any hazardous substances in your company while performing the risk assessment(§5 ArbSchG). Then we will evaluate the possibility for appropriate substitutionof the identified hazards. Often the costs for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) are much higher than the purchasing expenses for less hazardous substances.  
And finally you reduce the harmfull impact to your employees.
If any incidents, near-misses or accidents occur, I will assist in properly dealing with such events by performing a root cause analysis to define appropriate corrections and preventive actions to minimize the possibility of re-occurrance.

As VdS trained fire safety expert I provide advice for your preventive fire safety, qualify your staff as fire safety assistants or train the appropriate use of fire extinguishers. After approval from the local authorities I will come diectly to your facilities to perform the training on scene. However, sufficient space needs to be provided.

Dangerous Goods Transports on the road and at sea are planned and accompanied for some years now. I have also already accompanied some transportations of radioactive cargoes additionally to the regular dangerous goods. As governmental  (IHK) registered Dangerous Goods Expert andDGfzPtrained Radiation Protection Officer I am of strong assistance. I can also provide the required Radiation Protection Programme (RPP).
