internal ISM & ISPS Auditor

Internal Audits (ISM & ISPS ; MLC/OHSAS 18001 inspections)

provision of service as preparation for third party inspections.

Properly adopting the ISM Code is an amazing possibility to make shipping safer and more prosperous.

I am available with long term experience as internal Auditor but also as crew member and captain on board Oil-, Chemical- & Product tankers as well as geared and gearless Container vessels trading worldwide with multinational crew. Additionally I gathered experience as DPA & CSO for dry bulk cargo vessels. Both, this experience and my open and communicative behavior allow to quickly receive a comprehensive view on the condition on board. As my major aim is to act solution oriented I usually receive also full support by the crew. Consequently every audit I perform is also a preparation for following third party inspections.
  • Internal Auditor (ISM & ISPS) since 2011 (Germanischer LLoyd trained)
  • Confirmation of effectiveness of existing manegement Systems
  • Preparatoin of 3rd Party Inspections
  • MLC / OHSAS 18001

These full scope  internal audits are performed to ensure that the requirements for verification, review and evaluation (ISM 12) are met. 

It confirms in writing that the company is fulfilling its responsibilities (ISM 3) as the objectives of the code are to improve safety and ensure compliance (ISM 1.2). The company policy  in terms of safety & environment protection (ISM 2) is evaluated. We will have alook on the resources & personell (ISM 6) provided and confirm that all main shipboard operations (ISM 7) are regulated. The maintenance (ISM 10) planning and performance is to be looked at. 

As emergency situations do happen, the entire company needs to be prepared for emergencies (ISM 8). The emergency preparedness  plans will be reviewed to ensure that they are exhaustive and workable. To ensure that emergency situation are kept as little as possible, the reporting procedures and activities of non-conformities, accidents and hazardous occurrences (ISM 9) are evaluated by industry standards (like the accident triangle) and appropriate root cause analysis is performed, corrections and preventive actions are defined and circulated.

Finally  the documentation (ISM 11) will be reviewed.

I am also performing remote ISM & ISPS audits and remote MLC inspections.
